Hannah Moore (she/her) is a multifaceted percussionist-composer with a love for uplifting new and emerging voices. Hannah has premiered works by composers Joseph Schwanter, Grace Coberly, Catherine Likhuta, Joshua Muetzel, Michael Gordon, Susan Powell, Em Singleton, and Stuart Saunders Smith. These premieres have occurred through personal projects, folx Percussion, and international new music festival performances at Bang on a Can Loud Weekend, Nief-Norf Summer Festival, Sō Percussion Summer Institute, International Women's Brass Conference, and the Sandbox Percussion Seminar. Hannah is a member of folx Percussion, a femme and nonbinary percussion ensemble focused on performing new works. The group is currently commissioning eight composers to write pieces based on the concept of identity for their project Glimpses. Hannah has had the pleasure of performing with groups such as the Paul Winter Consort, Monarch Brass, New Haven Oratorio Choir, Hartford Capitol Winds, Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus, Zuva Zimbabwean Marimba Ensemble, Holyoke Civic Symphony, and the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra.
Hannah’s compositional style is rooted in her passion for the present. Whether creating works tailored to specific ensembles and individuals or composing pieces focused on current issues, she loves exploring the here and now of musical performance with consideration for future historical implications. Her works are thematically strong and rhythmically intricate with a particular, intentional focus on timbral details. She has been commissioned by the Pickerington North High School Percussion Ensemble, Summit Ridge Duo, and various American musicians. Her works are published by Wildlight Publications and can also be found on her website.
Hannah is an avid educator. She had the privilege of being a summer school music teacher for the Tulsa Boys Home (TBH). Her work with TBH’s at-risk youth led the organization to create a full-time music course for their students. She is also one of the founders of Mallets & Manuscripts, a monthly online discussion group for musicians and composers to discuss percussion music. The group consists of forty plus members from the United States and Europe. Hannah is currently on faculty for the Hartt Community Division with over eight years of experience teaching private lessons to students ages seven to sixty-five.
Hannah is currently pursuing her doctorate in Percussion, with a minor in Composition, at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. She received her bachelors and master’s degrees in Music Performance from the Ohio State University. She also has a minor in Music, Media, and Enterprise (music business), and a graduate certificate in College and University Teaching.
