feminIst KILLjoy

Soprano, Piano, and Percussion

The text for this piece is taken from Sylvia Plath’s poem “Lady Lazarus.” The point of view of this poem is very much from the perspective of a feminist killjoy. This woman is miserable with her life to the point that she has become suicidal. She has tried to end her life multiple times, but society continuously blunder her efforts – all to keep the façade of a happy society present. Full of despair, the feminist killjoy warns the reader that in a next life, she will come back for revenge. feminIst KILLjoy is about this woman in the next life. She is no longer powerless to her enemies. Now, she is powerful. Instead of trying to end her life to cease her suffering,  she smites her enemies.
